Taylor Beebe

@mrdomepieces

This week we’re introducing @mrdomepieces. For someone who has around 200 caps, you would think he’s been growing his collection for a while, but turns out that’s not the case. With that sneak peak into his story, let’s get to know more about Taylor and his passion for fitted hats.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and when you fell in love with fitted caps?

About a year ago I started heavily redoing my own personal wardrobe. I had lost a bunch of weight and I wanted, and I quote, “sick shirts and sick hats” because I’m pretty bald — so I started researching. The Clink Room was actually the first place I landed because I wasn’t super interested in sports caps and I wanted something different. The first fitted hat I bought was Boogieman by 40swords. The rest is history. I ended up getting more into the fashion flavor of sports caps, designing a few myself, and then diving headfirst into Clink.

How many caps do you currently have in your collection?

Somewhere in the ballpark of 150-200 now. I’m starting to rotate heavily through them and turning some into dedicated work fitteds to really get some use out of them. I almost don’t want to because they are so nice (especially the Clinks) but also, hats are meant to be worn!!

Why do you prefer fitted caps over any other hat style?

The fit and the variety. I don’t like snap backs, especially for work because I tend to get sunburnt. You ever get a sunburn while wearing a snap back? It leaves a HALF MOON on your head and looks SUPER GOOFY. Plus the high crown looks better. I find the brim is actually bigger on the 5950 too and helps keep the sun out of my eyes.

When shopping for a new cap, what draws your attention?

Custom logos (The Clink Room, The Capologists, Noble North) or unique fabrics. It’s gotta be more than about Dodgers caps with different colors — it’s gotta have some type of draw. I’m not going to spend my money on something that doesn’t have a level of uniqueness to it, especially since the fitted market is flooded with options.

Do you have any crazy stories or adventures for trying to purchase a cap?

Yes, actually. Back when I was heavily purchasing sports caps, LDRS 1354 re-released the Larry Bird 92’ Boston Red Sox and I set my alarm for 6:30am. Was on the site, managed to beat the bots and snagged it for retail. That was a really gem I was able to grab. I wear it still too when I’m feeling something classic.

Are there any caps that you’re still on the hunt for?

Not really. I find that I’ve been able to really snag all my “grails” now. Clink is great because of the preorder system. It’s hard to miss on stuff. There is one cap from the Capologists that alluded me — recolor of their Fudog in all metallic gold that I’m sad I missed.

What cap have you been reaching for the most lately?

I have a few that are heavily in my rotation. The Clink Room dropped two Japanese themed caps as fresh colorways. Sakuranami & Shi Devils. The recolors are hyper wearable — they see a lot of use. Recently too, all of The Clink Room classics that have been shock dropped lately are absolute bangers in hand. They keep a clean color scheme too — colored dome, black brim, gray UV. It makes it easy to match for an outfit.
